This is my first prototype for an electric guitar with hot-swappable pickups. It is named after a song by the Beatles. I have since started a second iteration, updates to which I post here.

Despite its issues, it has served me well over the years. Now it's time for a new generation.

Construction

All parts except the bridge, tuners, pickups, and electronic components (because who builds their own resistors?) were built by me. The neck is made from maple, and the fretboard is made from ebony. The inlays (dots and peacock) are maple, too. I routed most of the parts by first building templates out of MDF and then using a jig saw and trim router to clean up the contours.

Issues

While it was by far the most playable guitar that I had built up to that point, playability is a major issue. I would honestly say that, up until the 12th fret, it is even the best-playing guitar I have ever played. From the 12th fret onwards, it is borderline unplayable.

The pickup-swapping system is far from perfect. The pickups rest on springs, which allows them to vibrate with the guitar, effectively creating something like a notch filter.
